The following piece of text was taken from the official "The making of" book:
However
daunting, erecting the fence in Kauai had been a fairly straightforward construction
assignment. Michael Lantieri would alsobe responsible for a variety of physical
effects executed on location. A number of shots revealing the tour vehicles
traveling through the park were among those that required Lantieri's special
skills. As designed by John Bell, the vehicles themselves
were modified Ford Explorers that featured large, bubble-shaped roofs made of
pexiglass, and a colourul customised paint job complete with the Jurassic Park
logo. To simulate thetour car being propelled on rails in typical
amusement park fashion, Lantieri had laid down track---for cosmetic purposes
only---and divised a "blind drive" system. "We rigged the car
so that we could remote-control the steering, acceleration, and brakes. Someone
would lay down in the luggage section with the remote control and a hidden monitor,
and drive the car that way".
Below is a close up of J.Bell's autograph, taken from his design
drawings of the cars.
